The relief duty ends automatically after 56 days from when it was accepted if the local authority is satisfied that the applicant is in priority need and not homeless intentionally. [1] The local authority does not need to give the applicant a notice. There may be other circumstances where there is a reasonable prospect of suitable accommodation being available for at least 6 months, but this not necessarily being the same accommodation throughout. For example, an applicant with support needs may be placed in short term supported accommodation which forms part of a planned accommodation and support pathway overseen by the housing authority.
